Rinnai · RU, RUR, RL and V series
Rinnai builds durable units, but durability depends on a clean heat exchanger. We flush and descale Rinnai heaters for a flat $225 and leave the dated maintenance record Rinnai's warranty asks for.
Rinnai's maintenance guidance calls for periodic flushing to remove scale, and Rinnai's heat-exchanger warranty assumes the unit has been maintained. On Utah water we recommend once a year — more often if you don't have a softener. We connect to the isolation valves, circulate descaler through the exchanger, clean the inlet filter and check the unit's error history before we leave.
Rinnai condensing models (RU and RUR series) have a secondary exchanger that recovers extra heat; it also gives scale a second place to collect. If your Rinnai is taking longer to reach temperature or cycling on and off mid-shower, that's the usual cause.
