Navien · NPE and NPE-2 series
Navien NPE units are built for efficiency, and that condensing heat exchanger is exactly what Utah's hard water attacks. We flush and descale Navien heaters for a flat $225, in about an hour, with the dated service record Navien's warranty requires.
Navien requires periodic flushing of the heat exchanger as a condition of its warranty, and Utah water makes that a yearly job. Navien's manual describes the descaling procedure using the service valves; we bring the pump, the descaler and the isolation hoses, run the full circulation, and clean the inlet strainer while we're there.
Navien units with the built-in recirculation pump (the A-series models) move more water through the exchanger, so scale shows up sooner. If you're seeing temperature swings, longer wait times for hot water, or error codes, a flush is the first thing to rule out — and it costs a fraction of a service call.
